The State Bank of India (SBI) has commenced the applications for Apprentice positions under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961. Through this recruitment, 7,150 vacancies will be filled across various states and union territories of India. Eligible candidates can apply online till 8th June 2026. Candidates aged 20 to 28 years with a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university can apply for the program. Selected candidates will receive apprenticeship training with SBI for a duration of one year.

SBI Apprentice 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the prescribed age limit, educational qualification, and nationality requirements to be eligible for the SBI Apprentice Recruitment 2026. Applicants are advised to carefully review all eligibility conditions before submitting their application forms.

Age Limit (As on 1/4/2026)

Candidate’s age must be between 20 to 28 years as on 1st April 2026.

Relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable as per the Government of India guidelines for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates.

The Local language Proficiency is part of both the eligibility and selection process. Candidates must be proficient in the language of the region from which they are applying.

Qualified candidates in online examination will have to appear for the Local Language Test, which is a qualifying stage of the SBI Apprentice selection process. The test evaluates the candidate’s ability to read, write, speak, and understand the local language of the State or Union Territory for which they have applied.

Only those who successfully demonstrate the required language proficiency will move forward in the recruitment process.

What does SBI Bank Apprenticeship mean?

A bank apprenticeship is a training program where graduates work in bank branches and learn day-to-day banking work. During the training period, apprentices receive a monthly stipend and gain practical experience. Banks like SBI use this program to train fresh graduates, but it does not provide a permanent job in the bank.

The monthly stipend for an apprentice at SBI is Rs. 15,000/- per month. It is not a permanent job, so benefits and allowances are not applicable for an apprenticeship.

What is the Job Profile of an apprentice?

1-Year Apprenticeship at SBI

The SBI Apprentice 2026 apprenticeship program is conducted for a duration of one year. Candidates selected under this will undergo apprenticeship training for this period as per the terms decided by the bank.

Candidates should be aware that the SBI Apprentice programme is only a training opportunity and does not lead to a permanent job in the bank. Once the one-year apprenticeship period is completed, the engagement of apprentices will automatically end in accordance with SBI’s rules and guidelines.
