The 9th two-day national conference of the All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA) has started at the Sreeragam Auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram, at Prof. Victor Louis Anthuvan Nagar. Around 500 delegates representing various banks from across the nation have participated in the conference.

All India General Secretary S. Nagarajan opened the delegates’ meeting. He said that the Reserve Bank has already allowed foreign investment in five private banks, and its move to now allow foreign investment in public institutions like IDBI Bank, some regional rural banks, and LIC is completely unacceptable.

Attempts are still going on to sell up to 60.15 per cent of the government and LIC’s 96 per cent share in IDBI Bank to chosen foreign investors. He added that allowing foreign investment in the country’s public sector will threaten national sovereignty, and the association will organise strong protests against these plans.

Former Reserve Bank Deputy Governor Rama Subramaniam Gandhi delivered the keynote speech. He also launched the book ‘Secure Banking in the Digital Age’, written by top cyber security expert Nagarajan Subbu.
